The Genius Way Coca-Cola Employees Manage Their Email, Plus More Tips

Forget work/life balance. You can sleep when you die.

At least that's how Snapchat's Emily White and Coca Cola's Wendy Clark said they approach time management in a hyper-connected world. And the idea of unplugging? Ha.
“Rather than the choice to consciously disconnect, there’s much more of a trend of choosing who to connect with and in what context,” White said. “It’s very much about conversations.”
During a panel at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit on Monday, White, the COO of Snapchat and a veteran of Instagram, Facebook and Google, said she now relies on her phone more than her computer to get work done. “You’re not just getting information and solving problems; you’re getting to communicate in motion like never before,” White said. “This is the reason I can have kids and still have a relationship with them, and work in the evenings when I get home [after the kids are in bed].”
For Clark, the president of sparkling brands and strategic marketing for Coca-Cola North America, being present at work or with her family is the key to living in an over-connected world. “The thing people want most from you is your focus and attention,” Clark said. “You destroy that when you think that you’re multitasking because you’re not accomplishing either.”
That means no phones at the dinner table, for her or her kids. And if she’s expecting an urgent email from the CEO when they’re putt-putt golfing, she’s found the best thing to do is tell them that mommy needs to go respond to an email for 10 minutes and hope they don’t screw up her score while she’s gone.
So when you’re constantly connected, how do you get anything done?
  • Make the most of your subject lines. Clark said that at Coca-Cola, employees include tags in their subject lines to help manage email flow: URGENT, ACTION REQUIRED and INFORM.
  • Form habits you can keep. Recognize that you’re setting the standard for what people in your life will do, White said. If you start emailing people at night, people will expect you to be on email at night.
  • Give yourself white space during the day. Clark’s a fan of Google’s "speedy" meeting invitations, which are constrained to 50 minutes, without an option to override the system. By changing the standard for meetings to 25 or 50 minutes, the remaining five or 10 minutes can be used to check email or go to the bathroom, allowing everyone to be more present when they’re together.
  • Set boundaries. Camille Preston, author of Rewired, says having boundaries will help you with willpower. Put fences up to focus on what you want to do at that time.
  • Don't hit send. If you want to work on the weekends, save your emails as drafts, but don’t actually send them until Monday unless they're urgent. As a leader, you need to let people enjoy their weekends.

Staggering Petrol prices All over world

Probably whole petrol/diesel car industry in India revolves around petrol prices. At any point of time rising petrol prices must have pinched you.
Don't worry you are not alone have a look at the countries where petrol prices ranges from eye popping  Rs.177 - crazy Rs.1.7 per liter.

#1 Norway

It tops the chart with petrol priced at staggering Rs.177/liter. Whoa! that's like India's most fuel efficient car giving mileage of audi. The reason prices is that the motor fuel is taxed with both road use tax and a CO2 tax.

#2 Italy
Here to the petrol is highly taxed around 60%. Petrol is priced at Rs.151/liter. Petrol car industry would be negligible here.

#3 Netherlands

Not to far behind from Italy. We can see the reason why 10% of income is spent on the petrol as it is priced at Rs.150/liter.

Top 3 Countries With Dirt Cheap Petrol prices

These are the countries where no one asks about fuel economy in cars because here petrol is cheaper than a pint of beer. a burger, and even water and even pinch of salt(oh! not this one). Imagine a life of where going to high revs in car doesn't burn your pocket. (I remember going to my place to rohini to my college takes petrol of 200 bucks, But somehow when i was in racing mood and chasing higher reps it took nearly triple the amount)

 #3 Saudi Arabia

Well more famous for deadly driving skills an oil wells. The petroleum sector accounts for roughly 92.5% of budget revenues. 55% of GDP, and 90% of export earnings. About 40& of GDP comes from private sector.
Well its Decently priced at the price of a loaf of bread Rs.12/liter

#2 Iran

Not to be "politically incorrect" with this country. well you can get a liter of petrol at a price of samosa(sic!) i.e Rs.7/liter

 #1 Venezuela

Well i am envy of this nation. You can get a liter of petrol for 3 Alpenliebe (oh gosh!). It enjoys highest standard of living in latin america( i can see why).
It has highest inflation rate in the world 57.3%.You can get petrol at Rs.1.7/liter.

Zach from "hangover" Screws Obama

Well this is trending hot now. Zach galifianakis interviewed President Barack obama on his online show "Between two ferns" on "funnyordie.com". He came to promote Troubled  "Healthcare.gov"(well that didn't happen much) but it was really stunning and funny due to zach's wit and offensive interview.
Even president wouldn't have expected this kind of interview.

The best was:
Zach:  So, which country you were waiving for winter Olympics
President: Seriously? I am the president of United States, what do you think zach!

Satyamev Jayate -Truly awe-spiring

“Satyamev Jayate”- A show which has the power to move mountains. Aamir Khan is not just a fantastic actor but more than that he is an admirable human being who knows how to get its facts right & inspire people in a way that touches their soul. After watching it's first episode, I am completely moved, not just because his topic “Sexual Assault of women” is of great concern to us but because the amount of dedicated research that has been done by him for one episode.

The efforts shows up if you notice them, there are sources mentioned on all the data & footage shown in the show. The show is edited in a way that each & every line has something to tell you & makes each & every minute of the show worthwhile. One learns the truth so closely that we might have not noticed even when such things exist in society. Not only he highlights the issues but also showcase the solution to the problem. He is the only personality who has brought an revolution in this modern era. You can see the roads empty & silence everywhere at the time his show is on air even though we can watch the episode later but still no one wants to be late. Such is the aura of Aamir.

I would also like to appreciate Star India Pvt. Ltd. for this. They are doing a lot against crime. One of their channel “Channel V” features a lot of shows that are on youth empowerment, crime against women etc.

Star India have also launched an application “VithU” for security of women. Kareena Kapoor is endorsing it in many advertisements. This shows that these people are putting great use of their public image to do something for the society.

The song by Sona Mohapatra at the end of the show was like cherry on the cake!!Her rendition is melodious & deeply moving!

Lets Talk About Some Numbers

Reportedly Aamir Khan is charging Rs.6,20,00,000 as compare to 4cr previous season per episode. But this year the STAR has pegged this deal for 3 seasons, 4-5 episodes per season.
Ad-rates have also gone up, A 10 second spot is worth 11 lacks as compare to 10 lack previous season.
Airtel and axis bank(Key sponsors for this season) might have shed 18-20 crore and 13 crore respectively (Source: livemint)

How to start up a startup at college

Guys at degreelibrary.org have made amazing info-graphic. Check it out

Start a Startup

Monday, 3 March 2014

We are In Love with "Chai With Laxmi"

At first impression it seems like an interesting name for a "startup". Believe me you, the content of the book is even more interesting than its cover.
She is a marketing consultant, Ex-model, Director Msc, DIPM ACIM and a beautiful anchor and writer
I accidentally discover her "awarded" youtube channel while search for "micro-financing".

She is a very humble person. Her soothing nature brims out of her interviews and her personal blog

So, what’s my day off like? On this day, I refuse to do grocery shopping, do laundry, pay attention to dust under staircases or in the corners, deal with bills, get my hair done, make to-do lists, have concrete plans, etc. This is a day off. Full stop! This is for catching up with friends, playing board games all afternoon, reading a book without a care for time, watching movies, long walks leading into lazy breakfasts leading into lazier lunches and late afternoon naps, and evenings spent just chilling at a friend’s place or in my garden with friends. And I would oh so begin or end this by dancing into the middle of the night: my favourite way of de-stressing, given the right dance partner. (And whilst I’m typing all this, I’m hoping in the back of my head that in a year or two I will progress to having two-day weekends and therefore be able to get out of town too on some weekends!)

The show is such beautifully filmed that it hook you for more. Have a look at this her interview with an Angel ( You know what we mean by that). She is doing her 4th season of the show. Though we feel that she is still less known and talked around. With 5500 + likes on fb and 2800+ youtube subscription and 1200+ followers on twitter ( But she have tweeted 7000 times ,wow!) she is growing strong.

Marketing of the channel/website is still negligible. We feel that we can really be of her help with social media marketing and brand promotion.

Laxmi interviewing founder of "yourstory" shradha sharma

At the End we'll say that Content Rule , If you focus on content more than anything then you dont need to focus much on any thing else be it websites, blogs, shows and even LIFE(think it over!)

A Blunder that Google and Amy made

A boring morning, I  woke up from a call from none other than my blog partner & a good friend “amy”. I chit-chatted with him strolling in my house while discussing potential topics for our blog & plans for valentines and my desire to learn guitar blah blah. Two hours later, I visited my google+ profile after about a month and saw some blunder made by him. It was amy’s day I guess (as he was being the focus of my day). Amy, unaware of the google’s new policy commented on a saucy youtube video about a month ago & his comment appeared on his G+ profile while he had no idea about this.

The raunchy video:A stranger kisses 3 girls at mall

The comment he made goes like this
“wow! The second girl was amazing....It took me three months to do what he did in just 20 mins.”

My first reaction was O freak, his life is in danger!, I was rolling in the aisles. I texted him immediately that does he knows about Google’s such policy?. In my mind I could imagine him rushing to his lappie to delete the mess. Generally he sleeps in the afternoon, But it must be blown away. I teased him a lot on this(still doing that).
Now again a call was made to discuss the consequences that this would have caused if I wouldn't have notice it and you know what I made good business out of this whole saga. I am rewarded with “guitar classes”- A childhood dream come true

Yayyyyyyyyyyy! Lucky Me!! ;) [I won’t spare you amy]

With all this one thing is sure in desperate attempts of google+ to come into limelight by hook or crook , some innocent lives are endangered. This is not fair Google!!

The most noticeable change with this new integration is the comment system, where users now must comment using their Google Plus profiles, which more often than not their real names. Other issues include new comment notifications being delivered to a user’s Google Plus inbox instead of their YouTube inbox, top comments supposedly being from people you tangentially know on G+, and the constant pressure to change your YouTube account name to your real name & also posing a potential threat to unaware people’s life.
They should understand that anonymity is the principle on which internet works. Now just imagine google publishing search history of a person on G+ wouldn't that be catastrophic!
Now after this amy is on a hunt to find a “victim” who has committed the same mistake unknowingly.  Next spicy story of someone coming soon by him..stay tuned!
(And Amy hope to see you at my place with guitar soon)

The epic conversation which took place.

All that glitters is not gold.

We live in An era of start-up culture being in high trends  just like “Manish Malhotra’s Collection in glamour world. Being an “Entrepreneur” is a cool quotient. While all the social media portals are telling you the reason to be a cool & Provocative Entrepreneur. Let’s have a faceoff with reality to see how cool it is!! After all “All that glitters is not gold.”
Being an entrepreneur comes with way more responsibilities.
Are you living with the notion that its about BEING YOUR OWN BOSS! If yes, then it’s time for vis-a-vis. Only and only THE CUSTOMER is the boss. You have to report to the customer & in case of a funded start-up, you have to report to the board. Moreover it comes with a colossal responsibility of people dependent on you for their livelihood. So, if you are ready to move down this adventurous lane, go be an entrepreneur.

"Aspiring to be an entrepreneur is one thing but becoming a successful entrepreneur is other". As this is something that flows in blood, you need passion & skills to do be one. More than that fear of failure should not stop you but taking unnecessary risks is utter foolishness about which one should get spooked about. In conclusion you need to maintain a perfect balance. No blogs, lectures from Bill Gates and neither Ambani’s can teach you this.

Success comes from experience & experience from  bad experiences”- Sandeep Maheshwari

This above statement stands true. The key is to experience & moving out of your comfort zone.
From a distance it seems that its about being “On Page 3.” Due to media monsters hunting for start-up stories. Coming into lime light is also a fantasy goal for many. But one should take reality with a pinch of salt that failure is a part of most of start-ups coz if we focus on ourselves more than our product, failure is obvious.Even Sandeep Maheshwari , Founder of Images Bazaar has surged ahead after a lot of struggle. He failed in over 10 Business plans but the passion & faith in him kept him going.Today, he is a guide, a mentor, a role model and a youth icon for millions of people all over the world.

Sandeep Maheshwari

So, an entrepreneur's life is beyond the world of glamour, limelight, weekends & national holidays. It has a deeper meaning with the satisfaction of working on your principles.
If all this excites you, then you have the aura to be "The Entrepreneur". Nothing can stop you from making your own mark.

Mantastic Marketing!

When it comes to old Spice i get peppy about there marketing campaign. Its not something that happen with loads of brands. My last memories with it goes back to when i was small boy, I still remember that Blood Red tube of old spice shaving cream that my dad used.

Procter and gamble always had great marketing strategies. It is a classic example of how a brand created massive viral publicity solely through its 1 min ad-campaign. That's evident from its most viewed video on Youtube accounting for 100000 views per hour after it was broadcast during super bowl accounting to 4.7 million of total views.

P&G have impressive portfolio with some of the highest grossing products. The kind of marketing they (Wieden + Kennedy) did was extraordinary. They did "blitzkrieg marketing" where a shot of adrenaline is pumped to rock the whole campaign. The German military strategy to conquer the Europe was based on this principle.
In fact that company took bigger risk with marketing as they gave full freedom to marketing team without reviewing the video and getting it approved by management. According to one of the writers of marketing team "We had to make [more than] 168 videos in two days, there would've been absolutely no way to have a client approval process"
One of my favourite capaign is where terry crews flexes his chest muscles and shout. (no other brand can even think of airing such unconventional kind of ads)

Though be it old spice or some other brand, In market out of the box ideas are perceived well among target and even gaining new customers. Its all about gaining consumer's attention be it through guerrilla marketing, humour, wit or flexing chest muscles.

Apple Relaunching Iphone 4 in India?

Call it a stock clearing move or to tackle storming market share of Samsung, Apple has plans to re-launch Iphone-4 (8GB) variant in Indian market with expected massive marketing. With dwindling market share of around 1.4% as compare to samsung's 42%, Apple will offer it for around Rs.15,000 with EMI and buyback schemes as compare to previous retail price of Rs.26,000.

Iphones will be sourced from other countries where the demand for this model is virtually non-existent.

Will Apple succeed with disposing off inventory in India?
Past records show that Iphone sale tripled when it was launched with EMI scheme.
Sooner or later Apple realised that India is a price sensitive market and why launch of then expected "cheapest" Iphone model(5c) was eagerly awaited and hyped in India.
But flawless performance of Iphone's and there premium brand positioning will help in catalyzing its sale and will make Samsung and Micromax run for there money in sub-20,000 segment.

Business Idea that came to naught but yaariyan that will dazzle forever!!

It is a tale of four friends, Me, Amrit, Saarthak & Tushar. We are always brimming with ideas, excitement & energy.

We belong to different colleges & have a common spark amongst us to do something COLOSSAL. After a long saga of delayed & canceled plans of meeting each other Finally one October afternoon, we met at "Subway"(at NSP metro station) to discuss potential business plans & had a great 2 hour brain storming session. We discussed everything ranging from health related to insurance and logistcs for e-commerce to starting up a food joint, mobile accessories and blah blah”

Amrit was full of knowledge & passion whereas Saarthak had valid contradictions & his own splendid point of view and Tushar was like a ever ready battery, who is always ready to work. Amongst all I was the silent one observing the battle of words, logics, stats and experience which were thrown at each other and ripped apart in a heated brainstorming session without speaking much.

I knew it somewhere in me that this quartet will make a ecstatic team but somewhere in the long run when we decided to count on mobile accessories related online business “Bling My Phone”, I realized we misfired as a team or may be this idea fizzled. We made a revenue model, uploaded a page a few mobile covers, had long discussions on this for a couple of week, got 200+ likes in 3 days, decided to go to Gaffar Market to have an insight about the local business but(*sigh*) this remained in pipeline for forever & ever.

We all got caught by the Monster of monotony of one’s live. So the distance & skimpy time for this lead to its stagnation.Sometimes in life The Unexpected happens. But there is a deep resistance within me. Especially to the idea that I am the sole creator of everything that I experience. It is so much easier to blame the world & situations. May be we “all” lacked with the “will power”.

We crashed as a team of Bling My Phone but I hope we never crash as friends, motivators, entrepreneurs with stupendous energy.

Love you all!!

Facebook acqui-hiring or acquiring Little Eye Labs?

One fine morning,I came to know about Facebook acquiring Bangalore-based startup Little Eye Labs making it the social networking colossal’s first acquisition in India. Little Eye Labs Builds mobile app analysis tools for app developers & testers. These tools provide detailed insights about the behavior of the app, enabling easy benchmarking and optimization of resources. Little Eye Labs has received seed round of funding from GSF Superangels and VenturEast Tenet Fund.

So is it a "acqui-hire"?

Facebook being the most active acqui-hirers has undoubtedly bagged a group of great tech freaks who call themselves "ions". An acqui-hire is when a larger, [presumably] thriving company scoops up a younger, [presumably] struggling company. The acquirer is generally not interested in the startup’s product, but rather in getting its hands on a team of engineers with a history of working together. “It is worth noting that acqui-hires are hard to isolate & identify. Competition for talent — specifically developer talent — is fierce. Sometimes it is easier to shell out the cash for a fledging startup, rather than spend time and resources wooing developers. “Some are obvious as the acquirer states it, but many acqui-hires inevitably get dressed up as acquisitions in an attempt to put lipstick on a pig.” (source:venturebeat)
The entire Little Eye Labs team will move to Facebook’s headquarters in Menlo Park, California. Both the parties have confirmed about this acquisition. It is approximately worth 90 crores. It has been learned that facebook have got it at a huge bargain! The entire Little Eye Labs team will move to Facebook’s headquarters in Menlo Park, California. This seems to be one of those but then this deal is not just beneficial for Facebook-- it may be a whole new start for the startup community in India.

Do share your views on this acquisition made by the social-networking colossal-Facebook !!
